This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Follow pre-operative nursing care plan in preparing patient and the Operating Room.
Screen and transport patients between hospital units and the Operating Room.
Maintain sterile environment and aseptic technique for surgical procedures.
Support all surgical procedures and provide the proper instrumentation by anticipating the surgeon's needs during the procedure.
Prepare supplies, set and adjust medical equipment for use during procedures (i. e. microscope, electric coagulator, defibrillator).
Assemble instrument sets and peel pack items following instructions for use (IFU).

This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health.
The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
This is a Term position scheduled to last 3 years.
Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service.
This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
This position requires the incumbent to have successfully completed an accredited Operating Room Technician school course.
This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs.
This position requires selectee to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e. g. , Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e. g. , professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) Assisting with the assembly of surgical equipment and instruments in the operating room; 2) Preparing equipment and supplies based on patients specific surgical procedure(s); 3) Assisting with the sterilization of surgical instruments and maintaining a sterile operating room; AND 4) Assisting surgeon(s) during surgical procedures.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour. You will be asked to sign an agreement acknowledging that you are aware of the obligation and willing to be displaced under reduction in force procedures upon the return of the former incumbent.
